This is a book about the sex life of sea creatures—a very strange assignment.
The author’s daughter and her colleague created the illustrations. They were so beautiful that I wanted to feature them on the cover. I took my inspiration from a few postcards in the Griffin and Sabine books. I colorized the illustrations and added some moldy paper provided by a friend who loves flea markets. The illustrations are repeated on the chapter openers, and the endsheets are an algae-green embossed paper. This book won several design prizes and was included in the NY Book Show and the AAUP Book, Jacket and Journal show. At the end of the project, the author sent everyone involved a “party in a box.” Snacks, champagne, and good wishes. This is my favorite way to work—collaboratively with great results.
